Roofing FAQ’s

Q- What are some signs that I may need a new roof?
A- There are several signs that could indicate the need for a new roof. The signs include missing, cracked, or curling shingles, persistent leaks or stains on interior walls or ceilings, unexplained mold inside your house, ceramic granules in your gutter, and flashing pulling away from your home.

Q- What can cause my roof to leak?
A- The vast majority of roof leaks are caused by weathering and wind damage to the flashing surrounding the roof, chimney, and air vents. These flashing problems are typically the result of incorrect installation.

Q- What types of roofing services does Noble Roofing provide?
A- Noble Roofing provides all types of residential and commercial roofing services, including, complete roof replacements, new construction roof installation, and repairs. In addition, we also install and provide services for gutters, siding, and windows.

Q- If I have a leak in my roof does that mean I need a new roof?
A- Not necessarily. While a roof leak can indicate that your current roofing system is failing and is in need of replacement, this is not always the case. In some cases, it may be possible to fix a roof leak with a simple repair or by replacing only a segment of your roof. If you have a leak in your roof, call us and one of our technicians will come out and perform a roof inspection to determine if you need a new roof or just a repair.

Q- We have had a few storms in the area, but is it really necessary to have a roof inspection when I don’t have any leaks or see any damage?
A- If ANY storm has been through the area, we recommend having an inspection. Storms can cause damage to shingles that may not be apparent for 1 to 2 years. Most insurance companies have a 1 year deadline from date of storm to open a claim. Have a licensed and insured, local contractor inspect the exterior of the property and roof for damage. We would be happy to come out at no charge.

Q- What do I do if they find damage?
A- Call your insurance company immediately and let them know you want to open a claim so they will send out an adjuster to check the property and decide if there is enough damage to pay a claim. Make sure your contractor is present during the inspection. They can walk the property with the adjuster to make sure that nothing is overlooked. A good contractor at Noble Roofing will work with the insurance company to restore your property to its original condition.

Q- Do I need to get 3 estimates for an insurance claim?
A- No, not if it is an insurance claim. The insurance company determines standard pricing for the approved work based in a software program like Xactimate. The insurance company will ask for a receipt before they send out a final check. If you pay less to have the work done, they will only send you the amount you paid, minus your deductible.

Q- Shouldn’t I go with the lowest estimate to save the insurance company money?
A- No, because a company doing the work for the lowest price is usually cutting corners somehow, reusing old product, or not replacing everything the insurance company is paying for. So you will only be shorting yourself out of better quality work or getting the least qualified contractor by trying to find the lowest price. You have the right to choose any company you want. It is more important to choose a local contractor who you trust and has the expertise to work with your insurance company. We also use Xactimate software, so that makes it easier for us to work with your insurance company and handle the process for you.

It is illegal for a homeowner to profit from an insurance claim. It is illegal for contractors in Missouri to offer to pay homeowner’s deductibles on insurance claims. If you have a contractor that tells you otherwise, it may be committing insurance fraud. The insurance companies will audit claims. Insurance companies work with contractors to determine a fair price for your claim, there is no need for the homeowner to find the lowest bid.
